Coalition calls for PSOs to improve Geelong CBD safety
Public transport in Geelong’s CBD would become safer under a new plan released by Matthew Guy.
Opposition Leader Matthew Guy has called on Daniel Andrews to provide Protective Services Officers (PSOs) at the Moorabool Street bus interchange, to give commuters, shoppers and diners a safer environment, and peace of mind.
PSOs would patrol the bus interchange and the surrounding area, including the Little Malop Street mall.
Two PSOs would be present from 6pm until the last service each night, as occurs for Geelong Railway Station and every Melbourne metropolitan railway station.
Quotes attributable to Matthew Guy, Leader of the Opposition:
“The Moorabool Street bus interchange needs night-time security, just like already happens at Geelong Railway Station.
“Daniel Andrews needs to step up and provide safer public transport for Geelong’s CBD.
“Safer public transport will help to boost the CBD economy, with shops, restaurants and cafes becoming more attractive for an evening out.
“This is the first step toward fixing the Little Malop Street mall.”
