A Statement from the Leader of the Opposition

All Victorians are shocked and saddened by the events of yesterday evening.

Our thoughts and prayers go to those people injured, to their families and friends and to those many who witnessed the horror of what occurred on Flinders Street.

Christmas should be a time of joy, a time to spend with family and friends – all of us should be able to go about our lives in peace.

On behalf of the Liberal Nationals Coalition I place on record my heartfelt thanks to our emergency services, hospital staff and all first responders who yet again did so much in some of the most difficult circumstances.

Their bravery cannot be underestimated.

Melbournians should not change the way we live; we should not change the values and the lifestyle that has made us the most liveable city in the world.

Sadly, there will always be a few who try to bring harm to the many, but the values that unite us as a city will always be infinitely stronger than anyone seeking to harm us.
