New DPP a good opportunity to pursue stronger prosecution policy
The Liberal Nationals warmly welcome and congratulate Victoria’s new Director of Public Prosecutions, Kerri Judd QC, and new Chief Crown Prosecutor, Brendan Kissane QC, on their appointments.
We wish them well in their new roles.
We also express our sincere thanks to former DPP, His Honour John Champion SC, and former Chief Crown Prosecutor, Gavin Silbert QC.
The DPP and Chief Crown Prosecutor serve vital roles in criminal justice. Public confidence in our justice system depends to a significant extent on how strongly they discharge their functions.
With Victoria experiencing a law and order crisis under the Andrews Labor Government, a strong and resolute prosecutions arm to our justice system is needed more than ever.
Recent cases involving plea bargains and the downgrading of charges in cases of very serious violence, have generated much public debate about how the system can be toughened up to put the rights and interests of victims and the community before the interests of perpetrators.
We hope that growing public disquiet about how badly Daniel Andrews is managing our State’s justice system will help inform the way the new DPP and Chief Crown Prosecutor undertake their roles.
