Southwick: Labor full of hot air on Victorian gas resources

Labor full of hot air on Victorian gas resources

Once again Daniel Andrews is all blame and no responsibility.

The Labor Government continues to shirk responsibility for reliability and affordability of energy by blaming the Federal Government.

Despite AEMO already warning of potential shortages of gas in 2018, Daniel Andrews paid $42.5 million for a report that not only contradicts the advice of industry, but duplicates their research already done for free.

Industry is ready to go on gas and has already identified key sites it can access gas under the Liberal Nationals Coalition conventional gas policy.

The Liberal Nationals policy will allow the exploration for conventional gas while maintaining the current ban on fracking. The policy will also provide for royalties to be paid to property owners when gas is extracted on their property.

Victoria should not be banned from accessing its large gas resources because of Daniel Andrews’ inability to distinguish fracking from conventional gas.

Comments attributable to David Southwick MP, Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources:

“Daniel Andrews wants to continue his do nothing approach to gas and just hope for the best. We already know we’re facing shortfalls this winter; it’s just another failure to add to the list.

“Industry are ready to go on conventional gas. It’s time Daniel Andrews got out of their way, stopped conflating conventional gas with fracking, and got on board with the Liberal Nationals policy to kick-start conventional gas.”
